Adventures at the Grocery Store

Well, yesterday I had the misfortune of going to the grocery store. The only things fun about it is people watching and the wondrous food samples which brings me to my complaint.

Food Samples

Would you like to try a ____?”

Whether it be written on a sign on a li’l, plastic, isolation chamber filled with cheese or from a person cooking ridiculously small portions of food in misery, we’ve all heard that phrase before. It comes with the territory of Food Samples.

As I roamed the store grabbing one or two of every sample I wasn’t allergic to I noticed something odd.

People would, stop what they were doing and watch me eat. I first noticed this when I grabbed a small slice of orange and shoved it in my mouth. I turned around to chase after my mother when I saw an old man looking me straight in the eyes as if I had done something he’d never seen before.

After that I started to notice, people were watching me eat! It was weird at first, but I came to the conclusion that these people may suffer from SASD (Stop and Stare Disorder). SASD is defined as-

(One with an uncontrollable urge to stop and stare at minor changes to their surroundings or people doing something they, themselves, aren’t doing at the moment.)

You can encounter people like this when driving, they are the ones that come to a complete stop to look at a Traffic Cone at the side of the road or some guy trying to cross the street. A common name for them is a ‘Looky Loo’. Despite the cute name, this is a serious, not medical condition and if anyone you know or love suffers from it, please remind them, for the sake of everyone around them.

IT’S RUDE TO STARE.”
